Job Description:

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking an experiencedCollections Archivistwho will contribute to multiple cross-institutional teams developing the Opioid Industry Documents Archive (OIDA).

A joint collaboration between Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), including libraries at both universities, OIDA is a digital repository of publicly disclosed documents from recent judgments, settlements, and ongoing lawsuits concerning the opioid crisis. Specific Duties & Responsibilities


  • Lead the cross-institutional Collections Workgroup, setting policies related to OIDA collections and gathering and preparing collections to add to the archive.
  • Perform rapid, critical analysis of extensive sets of documents produced by the opioid industry in order to develop research guides and other tools to assist researchers using the archive and to respond to user research inquiries.
  • Assess documents for redaction needs (identifying PII and PHI) and assist with quality control of redactions performed by third parties.
  • Depending on expertise and project needs, contribute to the activities of other workgroups, such as Preservation, Metadata, and Engagement, that set policies and coordinate activities between the two institutions.
  • Contribute to grant seeking, presentations to program officers, and other fundraising efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    *A hired candidate willing to relocate to Baltimore will have the opportunity to connect with colleagues in the Welch Medical Library and build relationships with archivists in the Chesney Archives and the Sheridan Libraries, all at JHU.
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in library science, archival studies, or related field required.


      • Two years professional experience.

        Preferred Qualifications

        • Experience working with large archives of documents and comfort with scalable workflows.
        • Experience developing policies for and preparing born-digital documents for an archive.
        • Knowledge of litigation procedures and documentation.
        • Experience with or knowledge of research methodologies in the social sciences and the humanities.
        • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills.
        • Ability to collaborate with a diverse and geographically distributed team.
        • Ability to work independently, set and maintain priorities, and meet project deadlines.
