We are looking for an Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS)
Engineer I to join our talented team.
SUMMARY:
- Acts as the site's primary champion for promoting safety
awareness engaging key stakeholders. Maintains sites EHS metrics
and promotes Kaizen activities for continuous improvement.
- Helps develop and sustain a heightened level of safety
awareness within the organization working closely with Value Stream
Managers, Site Leaders, Facilities and Corporate EHS.
- Maintains the site's Safety Committee program promoting routine
engagement of key stakeholders. Ensures core actions are taken by
the Safety Committee such as reviewing incident reports,
performance of safety inspections, reviewing safety input from
employees and monthly review of the site's safety compliance
calendar.
- Evaluates both existing and proposed processes relative to
their impact on environmental, health and safety regulatory
compliance. This includes EHS project support for Manufacturing,
Facilities and Product development and product transfers.
- Acts as a resource for EHS technical information and guidance
to improve processes and systems in safety, engineering design &
review of equipment (including equipment guarding), and chemical
process including necessary risk assessments.
- Introduces a cross-hybrid approach to site safety inspections
that includes participation of all key stakeholders. Reviews
inspection reports and works with team members to address areas of
concern.
- Ensure all environmental permits, licenses, certificates and
records are prepared and submitted as required. Requires
interfacing with government agencies in support of site permits
including but not limited to BAAQMD, USD-POTW, CUPA-Fremont Fire
Dept, EPA, DTSC, TRI I Form R, EPCRA Tier II Reporting and
others.
- Must be knowledgeable and capable of training employees on EHS
programs such as IIPP, Hazard Communications, Ergonomics, Working
at Heights, Forklift Safety, Contractor Safety, Emergency Action
Plans, Fire-Life Safety, PPE, Covid-19, Workplace Violence
Prevention Programs, Hot Work Permits, Ionizing/Non-Ionizing
Radiation, LOTO, SWPPP, Hazardous Waste Operations, Waste-Water
Treatment Systems, Air Permitting Compliance and Laser Safety
Programs.
- Must ensure the process of incident investigations are
performed in a timely manner including root-cause analysis and
follow-thru with implementation of agreed-upon countermeasures.
Actively manage modified and lost workday cases to their
conclusion.
- Maintains records such as industrial hygiene studies, SDS,
hazardous waste management, Master Chemical List, Incident
Investigations, EPCRA Tier II, Air Permitting Compliance, DTSC,
Waste-Water Treatment System Compliance, Forklift Certifications,
NPDES SWPPP and NEC, and First Aid Certifications.
- Develops and provides EHS training including new employee
orientation.
- Knowledge in EHS requirements for the operations of molten salt
baths, waste-water treatment systems and technologies (metals) and
laser safety (past or present LSO designation a plus).
- Partners with Corporate EHS on initiatives, projects and
ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Remains current with environmental, health and safety
regulatory changes. Participates in appropriate professional
training and organizations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Environmental or applied sciences (chemistry, biology,
physics), or BS Chemical Engineering.
- Overall, 3-5 years of experience in a Medical Device or
Pharmaceutical mfg. environment focused exclusively on EHS
compliance.
- Ability to effectively communicate with gov officials/agencies
including but not limited to BAAQMD, DTSC, UDS, CUPA, Cal-OSHA,
Health Departments.
- Project management experience.
- Laser Safety Officer (LSO) training (optional).
