We focus our efforts on producing policy-relevant research, engaging tomorrow's leaders and scholars, and building a rich and diverse network.POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Development is an active fundraiser and oversees the work of other fundraisers. The Director of Development works closely with SIEPR leadership to establish fundraising goals and create and execute fundraising plans while sustaining and growing SIEPR's major/principal gift, annual giving, planned giving, and stewardship programs.The Director of Development operates within a highly collaborative and donor-focused environment. The Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing solicitation plans and strategies that will generate financial support for SIEPR priorities. The Director of Development serves as a highly visible, knowledgeable, and articulate representative of SIEPR, providing information about its research and policy activities with the objective of building and cultivating relationships that will produce major gifts and endowment funding while maintaining a strong base of annual giving. In addition, the Director of Development works closely with the leadership of other SIEPR programs and centers and other senior colleagues to effectively market programmatic efforts that advance SIEPR's research and policy objectives.CORE DUTIES:

  • Lead or oversee major/principal gift fundraising program, annual giving program, stewardship, donor-related events, and all other fundraising activities.
  • Manage an active portfolio of donors.
  • Manage, with the SIEPR Director, the volunteer Advisory Board and its Executive Committee.
  • Establish and enhance relationships between current and prospective donors and director, faculty and staff.
  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
  • Inspire and motivate staff by fostering a work environment that encourages new ideas, risk-taking, team-based efforts, celebrating current achievements and setting/meeting philanthropic goals.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience and management experience, preferably in an educational institution or nonprofit or a combination of education and relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Demonstrated fundraising experience, sensitivity, and diplomacy.
    • Excellent judgment, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to lead and motivate others and earn the respect of associates at all levels.
    • Strategic skills to craft and help implement fundraising plans.
    • Demonstrated managerial talent in guiding major gifts efforts.
    • Customer service expertise serving faculty.
    • Proven ability to meet fundraising goals with a strong track record in managing and balancing donor and faculty relationships.
    • Ability to manage a large number of fundraising activities simultaneously.
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
    • Effective management experience and excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience recruiting, evaluating, mentoring, and placing staff.
    • Demonstrated experience engaging and motivating groups of diverse individuals, including strong volunteer management skills.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
      • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
      • Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.WORKING CONDITIONS:May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Travel may be required.WORK STANDARDS:

        • Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures.Pay Range:The expected pay range for this position is $162,653 to $211,000 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
