The PositionWe advance science so that we all have more time
with the people we love.The Translational Medicine (TM) department
at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated and innovative
scientific leader for our Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
portfolio. The mission of TM is to develop and execute innovative
biomarker and diagnostic strategies to drive clinical development
through all phases of the portfolio, and conduct foundational
disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific
and clinical impact. The Director is responsible for the
scientific, strategic and managerial leadership of the IBD team in
Translational Medicine. The Director is leading a team of
scientists who provide biomarker and translational research support
to the IBD portfolio. The Director is accountable for ensuring that
appropriate biomarker strategies are developed, using state of the
art technologies, that novel biomarkers are discovered and are
fully integrated into clinical plans allowing for maximally
informed decision making. In addition, the Director is accountable
for the translational research strategy in IBD maximizing the
learnings and insights from multi-omics biomarker data in our
clinical data sets in support of building foundational models and
biomarker and target discovery.The Opportunity:As an integral
member of this dynamic team, you will be:
- Providing strategic direction and oversight of the
Translational Medicine IBD portfolio.
- Accountable for delivering impactful biomarker strategies and
data for the IBD portfolio, as well as overseeing the translational
research strategy for IBD.
- Partnering with IBD leaders in Research, Clinical and GPS to
ensure priorities are aligned, and projects are appropriately
resourced.
- Responsible for prioritizing resources to ensure optimal
delivery of initiatives within budget and defined timeline.
- Establishing and maintaining strong external partnerships with
key opinion leaders, academic institutions and other external
partners, and being seen as a scientific thought leader in the
field of translational research.
- Acting as a thought leader and active member of the
Translational Medicine OMNI leadership team.
- Providing excellent communication skills and evidence of
success in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
- Demonstrating ability to attract, develop, mentor, and motivate
talented scientists.
- Creating an inclusive and inspiring scientific environment in
order to deliver a diverse and highly productive organization that
can attract and retain the best talent.Who You Are:
- Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology or related
fields with 8+ years of experience and expertise in IBD drug
development and/or translational research.
- Proven leadership capabilities in building, developing,
motivating and retaining effective teams that foster productive
collaborations.
- Deep knowledge and experience in translational science,
functional genomics, interpreting and analyzing scientific data
with solid judgment skills in application and relevance in the
clinical setting.
- Exceptional communication, influencing and partnering skills in
a matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated innovation ability as evidenced by patents and
publications.Relocation benefits are available for this job
posting.The expected salary range for this position based on the
primary location of South San Francisco, California is $184,300 -
$342,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience,
qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors
permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available
based on individual and Company performance. This position also
