As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you will work in
consultation with the Speech Language Pathologist to provide
high-quality speech therapy services across multiple Spectrum
School locations within an assigned region. This includes, but is
not limited to evaluating students, planning and implementing
individualized therapy programs, monitoring progress, and
collaborating with educational teams to enhance students'
communication skills and overall development.
The Speech Language Pathology Assistant works under the support and
direction of the Speech Language Pathologist and onsite Program
Director(s) to ensure the highest standards of clinical practice
are upheld across multiple school locations and education
teams.
--- Responsibilities Include:
- Evaluating students within designated programs to determine
speech therapy needs and appropriate levels of service.
- Providing assistance to the Speech Language Pathologist during
assessments including but not limited to formal documentation,
preparing materials, and performing clinical duties.
- Conducting speech-language screening, without interpretation,
using protocols developed by the Speech Language
Pathologist.
- Providing direct speech and language therapy assistance to
students under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist,
employing evidence-based strategies and techniques to improve
speech, communication skills, language comprehension, and cognitive
abilities which meet the individual age-appropriate needs of each
child in their natural environment.
- Following and implementing documented treatment plans and
protocols developed by the Speech Language Pathologist.
- Documenting therapy sessions and progress notes accurately and
timely, ensuring compliance with Spectrum policies and state
regulations and reporting the information to the Speech Language
Pathologist.
- Maintaining detailed case records according to Spectrum policy
and state regulations ensuring all authorized documentation,
including billing, is completed accurately within 24 hours of
service delivery.
- Fostering effective communication with families regarding
session scheduling, make-up sessions, and progress
updates.
- Collaborating and building rapport with teachers, parents, and
related service providers to promote consistency and carryover of
therapy goals into daily routines and educational
activities.
- Participating actively in onsite multidisciplinary team
meetings and regional conferences to discuss student progress and
treatment recommendations.
- Scheduling activities as well as preparing charts, records,
graphs and data.
- Performing checks maintenance of equipment including but not
limited to augmentative communication devices.
- Assisting the Speech Language Pathologist with research
projects, in-service training and family/community
education.
- Ensuring the express knowledge and approval of a supervising
Speech Language Pathologist is received prior to conducting
evaluations, interpreting data, altering treatment plans, or
performing any task.
- Supporting the overall program in ensuring execution of all
compliance policies, protocols related items, and
documentation.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to staying current
with advancements in speech pathology and educational
practices.
- Traveling between and maintaining appropriate onsite presence
to support all Spectrum School locations within assigned region if
applicable. Overnight travel may be required on occasion.
- Performing additional duties and/or projects at the request of
onsite Program Director(s) or as assigned by the Speech Language
Pathologist.
--- Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in speech pathology or a closely
related field of study.
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a state
speech language pathology assistant (SLPA) certification.
- A valid CA state driver's license is required for travel
between locations. -
- Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in providing
speech language therapy support, preferably in an education and/or
classroom setting.
- Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services
and compliance, particularly for students with autism related
disabilities and emotional disturbance highly preferred.
- Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical
conversations with students that help move them toward realistic
goals and next steps.
- Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict
resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making
ability.
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet
deadlines while maintaining organization and attention to
detail.
- Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with
instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry
and basic office equipment.
