Position description

The UC Merced Community and Labor Center (CLC) is located at the University of California Merced. It conducts research and education on issues of community, labor and the environment. The CLC was awarded $6,500,000 by the James Irvine Foundation to administer and coordinate a Worker Resource Center program, aimed at educating workers in the Central Valley about their rights.

Under the supervision of the Worker Resource Center (WRC) Associate Coordinator of Public Programs (CPP), the Assistant CPP will maintain a system for providing technical assistance to workers navigating public institutions related to work. You will also work with the legal education coordinator and labor education coordinator to identify needs for low-wage worker education, and learn how to conduct worker rights trainings and clinics, from non-credit workshops to various extension-credited training series. The trainings will be grounded in the standard practices of worker center education (i.e. clinics) and will be delivered in Spanish and English (and any other languages requested by large numbers of workers and worker organizations). Trainings will cover various topics, from wage and hour provisions to workplace health and safety. Under the supervision of the Associate CPP, the Assistant CPP will regularly update all Worker Resource Center materials.

Under the supervision of the Associate CPP, the Assistant CPP will also commit service to the Community and Labor Center. The Assistant CPP will organize delivery of trainings, and liaise with state agencies and community-based and worker organizations.






Qualifications


Basic qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of equivalent work experience

Strong organizational skills and decision-making abilities

Ability to work collaboratively in a team




Preferred qualifications
Demonstrated strong communication and writing skills in English and Spanish (or another language needed to support low-wage workers in the region)

Experience in curriculum development

Experience planning and conducting participatory training and outreach programs for labor and community organizations

Knowledge of or experience in occupational health and safety, environmental health, and/or emergency preparedness

Background in labor, public health, or a related field 2-5 years experience designing and implementing participatory training programs
