Job Description:
The Nusse Lab at the Stanford University School of Medicine
seeks a skilled and motivated Life Science Research Professional 2
(LSRP) for a 1 year fixed term, to join an exciting new research
endeavor studying the fundamental molecular and neural circuit
mechanisms underlying brain homeostasis, resilience, and
degeneration. The LSRP will work independently under the general
guidance of the Primary Investigator and lab members to provide
basic lab management as well as perform complex experiments mapping
and characterizing brain function at the cellular and circuit
levels. This entails using approaches ranging from basic histology,
behavior, and molecular biology to cutting-edge techniques in
spatial transcriptomics, functional genomics. This position
provides an opportunity for a motivated individual to gain
experience working at the leading edge of research spanning
genetics and tissue development, in a fast-paced, teamwork-oriented
environment that aims to provide excellent training and mentorship
for all members. Ideally, we are seeking a minimum 1-year
commitment, starting immediately. The LSRP will interpret results
and make suggestions that may lead to inclusion in publications.
The LSRP may assist in training new staff and students on
techniques as necessary, as well as performing lab management
duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining lab records, and
adhering to all Stanford safety regulations. Performance of
experimental techniques, interpretation of results, troubleshooting
procedures, and recommendations for modifications of techniques and
approaches will be expected, with on the job training in specific
techniques provided as needed. The LSRP must be self-motivated, a
quick learner, technically adept, accurate, efficient, organized,
and able to keep detailed records. The LSRP must have good general
basic computer skills, excellent communication skills, and able to
work as part of team. Some more advanced computational skills (e.g.
basic Python programming) are a plus. In addition, the LSRP is
expected to assist in the drafting, submitting, revising, and
monitoring of animal use protocols.Duties include: ---
Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s). Make
recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to
principal investigator.
--- Independently conduct complex (lab and/or field) experiments to
gather data for a portion of a major research project.
--- Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines
exist, and make modifications to existing procedures and
protocols.
--- Develop new research protocols where appropriate protocols are
not described in the literature or where modification or adaptation
of standard procedures and protocols is required.
--- Participate in multidisciplinary teams across different
faculties or schools.
--- Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new
procedures and related research; apply to ongoing research and
development of new protocols.
--- Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for
publication, especially in the results section, and to publication
of findings. Present ongoing work to colleagues and/or academic
conferences.
--- Oversee supply and equipment budget under supervision of
principal investigator or business manager.
--- Work with health and safety department to ensure lab complies
with regulations and all required trainings.
--- Supervise (either formally or informally) staff or students as
needed, including oversight and direction on techniques, as well as
consultation on project work. Serve as a technical resource for
other research staff.
--- Oversee the daily activities of the laboratory including lab
maintenance; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and
safety records, and provide general lab support as needed. May
assist with purchasing laboratory equipment.*- Other duties may
also be assignedThe expected pay range for this position is $81,130
to $94,895 per annum.

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of
