- WORK ARRANGEMENT: HybridJOB PURPOSE: Assist Hoover Institution
Senior Fellow on working on the adaptive Epsilon Distinguishable
Set (EDS) project, with the aim to greatly reduce the computational
difficulties to approximate functions and solve complicated
economic models. Applications include computing confidence sets for
likelihood inference and solving dynamic programming problems. The
EDS project will require ability to design and implement efficient
optimization algorithms based on mathematical theory of scattered
data interpolation.CORE DUTIES:
- Collect, manage and clean datasets.
- Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and
visualize multivariate relationships in data.
- Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and
statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to
data and reporting requirements.
- Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially
problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for
data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and
suggest possible solutions.
- Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by
investigators and for publication and presentation.
- Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection
and analysis methods.
- Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to
investigators and research staff.
- Communicate with government officials, grant agencies and
industry representatives.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education &
Experience:Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and
relevant experience. Experience in quantitative disciplines such as
economics, finance, statistics or engineering. Master's in
economics as well as substantial training in applied mathematics
and computer science strongly preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:
- Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs
(e.g. Julia, Python, Matlab, LaTeX, C++, Fortran, Linux and
Git.)
- Strong writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload.Desired/Preferred Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong background in Quantitative Methods and Social
Analysis.
- Fluency in programming languages such as Perl, Python, Java, R,
C, Matlab; MySQL.
- Familiarity with machine learning, information theory and
signal processing.
- Experience with algorithm development.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone.
- Rarely writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh
up to 10 pounds.WORK STANDARDS:
